Yoplait is the world's largest yoghurt franchise brand. General Mills, an American food corporation, and Sodiaal, a French dairy cooperative, hold it jointly. In 1964, 100,000 French farmers united six regional dairy cooperatives to market their goods more efficiently at the national level. Yoplait, a combination of the trademarks of two-member cooperatives, Yola and Coplait, was introduced as a new national brand in 1965. Philippe Morlighem developed the company's logo, which is a six-petaled flower, with each petal symbolizing one of the six primary cooperatives' founders. A revised logo has been gradually phased out since the late 2000s, and it features a flower with only five petals.
The brand created liquid kids yoghurt, known as Yop, in 1974. The yoghurt drink was a hit in France, and it quickly moved to the UK, Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, and Canada. Yop is available in various flavours (including strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry) depending on the nation, although it is only accessible in limited quantities in the United States.
