The source of triviality that surrounds us becomes light until almost forgotten in the middle of vineyards located between brief groups of coniferous forest. It is the heart of El Penedes, where the Torres founded their winery in 1870. Every generation of the family has transmitted, from parents to children, the passion for wine culture paired with tradition and a commitment to innovation. Most importantly, it is still a family business with a strong international brand presence. Its wines are sold in 150 countries, and for many years it has been considered the most admired brand in Europe by the Drinks International publication.
Torres Sangre de Toro is a fantastic wine made from the grape varieties Carinena (35%), and Garnacha Tinta (65%). It is named after the Roman wine god Bacchus. This wine has a deep black cherry red colour with purple reflections. Taste wise, you will enjoy delicately ripened blackberries, juicy cherries, as well as hints of herbs and wood. This red wine has a robust, full-bodied, velvety texture, which is complemented by silky tannins. Also, the flavours are a reflection of its aroma. An oak-roasted scent enhances the finish, which is long and smooth.
For preparation of the Torres Gran Coronas wine, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are used to make a large, well-structured wine. Made with French oak barrels and aged for about 12 months, this is a powerful and complex wine. Miguel planted Cabernet Sauvignon in Penedes, a region where cultivation of white grapes has been the usual practice. Since Miguel is known for producing fine Cabernet Sauvignon, the Gran Coronas have become a benchmark wine for the region.
When we talk about Rueda wines, we usually mean their white wine. The grapes are selected from the top vineyards in the heart of the Douro region. After the harvest, the must is fermented in massive stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature for a few days. Verdejo, the principal grape variety of Rueda, is used to make the wines produced in this region. It is grown along the Douro River and its tributaries. One such wine is the Torres Verdeo, which stands out for its aromatic power with varietal notes of fennel and fresh wet grass just before sunrise. In addition to floral notes, they have a high acidity due to the large temperature variations between day and night.
The commitment to protect the land and the environment, the search for excellence and the passion for wine culture have been transmitted from generation to generation. Today, the objective of making Torres wine from unique vineyards and recovering ancestral varieties in Catalonia not only remains intact, but has also been further promoted. So, get yourself impressed with the lovely wine collection of the brand that scores well with its pleasant minerality.
